The use of had been

Needless to say, convenience and location had been one of the main attributes I had been/was looking for in a place to stay.

Can I use two had beens in one sentence?

Top answer

I wouldn't, as the past perfect is used to express an action previous to another past action. I would change the sentence to: Convenience and location were two of the main things I was looking for in a place to stay. [ had been looking for is a possible option ]
