The use of emphasize ...

Hi

Please look at this sentence.

He emphasized the use of English in the school.

I am aware that "emphasize on the use" is not a correct structure...but what if the speaker uses "a great deal" after "emphasize"?

He emphasized a great deal on the use of English in the school.

Does the above sentence sound OK to native ears?

Thanks,

Tom

He emphasized a great deal on the use of English in the school. This isn't a standard use, and would have a different meaning. To emphasize a subject usually means that someone in a position of authority schedules or teaches more classes (focuses) on that subject.

Please look at this sentence:

He emphasized the importance of attracting industry to the town.

If I'm not mistaken, the above sentence is 100% correct.

But what if the speaker accidentally uses an adverb after emphasize? Is there any way to

I think the problem is that the available collocations are very limited. Only these sound native to me:

He emphasized the importance...
He strongly emphasized the importance...

I can think of no other words or arrangements that ring naturally.
