The use of contacts and connections

Hi teachers.I am having a hard time understanding the difference between these two words. Are they interchangeable? I would make this distinction: Contacts are people with knowledge or ability to provide a service. But they may not have a persona l connection to you. Connections are people you are friendly with.

I would make this distinction: Contacts are people with knowledge or ability to provide a service. But they may not have a personal connection to you. Connections are people you are friendly with.
