The use of comma

Hello!

I was wondering if a comma is needed in the 1st sentence below. (I think a comma is essential in the 2nd sentence.) Can anyone please explain if it is needed or if not?

1) White balance: adjust the colour temperature of the camera, depending on the current lighting conditions.

2) White balance: depending on the current lighting conditions, adjust the colour temperature of the camera.

Thanks in advance! have a great day!

Well if the compound word "White balance" is included in your sentence then the 2nd sentence sould look like; White balance, depending on the current lightening system, adjust the colour temperature of the camera. For the first sentence, I am not too much sure. I think it would be better off without a comma.

Jen, the comma certainly works in the first sentence. I'm not sure that it's 100% required, but it is useful and appropriopriate to include it.
