The use of "collect oneself"

Hi

Would you say that the following sentences are correct with respect to the use of "collect oneself"?

By the time we reached there, she had collected herself completely. (composed herself perhaps after crying or fighting)

Please collect yourself! It's not the time and place to react like this.

Thanks,

Tom

PS: Should I use "it's" with "time and place"?

Hi Tom

Your first sentence would be fine in written English, but I wouldn't expect to hear it in everyday spoken English.

Your second sentence seems to be spoken English, so it doesn't strike me as the most natural usage even though the way you've used it is OK. Again, it sounds a bit "literary" to me.
