The use of "Be that as it may"

Hi

Could you please tell me if the use of "be that as it may" is common in everyday English? Also, can we put "but" before this phrase?

I know what you are saying is true, but be that as it may, I cannot give you any more money.

Thanks,

Tom

It's not at all unusual, although it is an indicator of 'educated' English.
