The use of 'astonishingly'

As we passed a remarkably decorated restaurant by car, a friend of mine called 'Astonishingly!'

I would have used 'Astonishing!' instead to indicate my surprise (like "what an astonishing decoration').

Can somebody please tell me, what is really correct in this case of exclamation:
the adverb astonishingly or adjective astonishing ?
