The use of articles - do I have them in the right places? Thank you!

After about six hours of travelling in the dusty, non-air-conditioned environment, we suddenly stopped in the middle of nowhere, in-between two villages on a bumpy road, a sort of Siberian highway.

The commas are fine.

"In between"[no hyphen] is correct, but "between" is more common
