The use of articles a, an, and the

I know that I have to use "a" or "the" before "radius", but what if I wanted to say "smaller radius", should I use "a" in this case as well? For example "which has smaller radius" or "which has a smaller radius".

Also, should I put "an" in the follows: "Such an analysis leads to...", or I should not "Such an analysis leads to...".

Could you please explain your answer.

Thanks
