The use of article and correct tense

Have you provided (a, the) payment instruction to XYZ for 2015 cash distribution for ABC account?

Is my sentence correct?
Thanks!

Top answer

You can use either "a" or "the". The nuance is slightly different. If you use "the", it gives more of an impression that a payment instruction is a regular and expected thing in this circumstance.

  • Probably there should be another "the" before "2015 cash distribution".
  • The last "for" seems a bit vague to me, but I guess it would be be understood by someone who knew the procedures involved.

Mmm. Not exactly in my opinion. I think I'd write this:

Have you provided XYZ with payment instructions for the 2015 distribution on the ABC account?
