The use of a reflexive pronoun

This novel is set in a Chinese village before World War One.
The protagonist lives with his wife, baby, and father, his wife was a maid to so rich a family.

But then his uncle's wife was a foolish woman, fat and lazy, and forever clamoring for sweet food and for this sort of thing and that and for new shoes bought in the town. Wang Lung's woman made all the shoes for himself and for the old man and for her own feet and the child's. He would not know what to make of it if she wished to buy shoes!
<The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck>
I'd like to know why it is "himself," not "him."
Thank you in advance for your help.
