The use and meaning of "as" in this tricky sentence

The below sentence is from the movie Pocahontas 2.
1.
Things are not what they appear
As tonight will make quite clear

I'm not sure the use of "as" in this lyric.
It seems much different compared to the below sentence.
2.

Things are not what they appear as the man Sarah thought was the killer suddenly saves her and help her escape the club, all the while the real Terminator (Schwarzenegger) is spraying the place with an UZI.

In #1, it seems a kind of "object" relative pronoun representing "things are not what they appear."
I think, in "Tonight will make it clear that things are not what they appear," the underlined part become "as" in #1 sentence.

In #2, "as" just serves as a conjunction meaning "while."
Can you tell me what do you think of my surmise?
