Is the definite article "the" before "use" correctly used in the following sentence?

1. Turning off the lights when we leave a room is an example of reducing the use of precious resources.

Or must it be as follows?

2.Turning off the lights when we leave a room is an example of reducing use of precious resources.

3. Turning off the lights when we leave a room is an example of reducing our use of precious resources.
