Why did the writer use the noun "assembly" in stead of the participle"assembling" though other words are the participles in the sentence? Thank you very much.

It is the more appropriate noun and highly collocates with automobile manufacture. We generally use the '-ing' nouns (gerunds, made from participles) when we don't have an appropriate noun proper.

Just 'gerunds' (which means 'participial nouns').
