the usage of "opposite"

Could you answer my questions?

I know the sentences #B is wrong...but I don't understand the usage of "opposite."

#A Everybody expected the musical to be a great hit, but it was "far" from being a success.

#B Everybody expected the musical to be a great hit, but it was "opposite" from being a success.

According to some dictionary, "opposit" can be used only an attributive adjective as an adjective.

Is that the reason #B is wrong?

But, the sentence 1) below seems to be used as an adjective and not an attributive one.

1) That is completely opposite from Japan.

Or, is this "opposite" used as an adverb?? Then it means "that" is a place which is opposite from Japan physically???

Also, I've found another example, which I can't understand the difference of usage of "opposite" between the sentences (#B and #C) below...(I know #B is a wrong sentence)

#B Everybody expected the musical to be a great hit, but it was "opposite" from being a success.

#C His personality is opposite to/from mine. (quoted from a dictionary)

In the sentence #C, is "opposite" an adjective or a noun??

Thank you very much in advance!

Thank you very much for your reply.

Could you tell me why in #B, "opposite" can't be used as an adjective while in #C, it is used as an adjective.
For me, both sentencea have the same structure...

Thank you in advance!
