The usage of "not unless"

I've already searched and found a lot of results, but still not clear. would you help me?

please tell me if I'm correct or wrong.

example:

are you gonna enjoy your meal with them?

not unless they didn't eat first. =make sure that they should not eat first without me to have a meal with me.

are you gonna come to the party?

not unless there aren't many people. =make sure that there are only few people. I hate so many people gethering, it's too crowd.

in short, not unless=make sure=to give strong emphasize to the phraze??
