The usage of conditional

The protagonist is a prince of Amber. He, his brother Random, and his sister Deirdre came in Remba, a ghost city to restore his memory, but his brother had made a big lapse here in the past.

If he was going to pay?whatever the price?for whatever he had done, I could see that he would pay it like a true prince of Amber?as our three dead brothers had done ages ago, I suddenly recalled. He would pay it, mocking them the while, laughing though his mouth was filled with the blood of his body, and as he died he would pronounce an irrevocable curse which would come to pass. I too, had this power, I suddnely knew, and I would use it if circumstances required its use.

I'd like to know why "though" is used, not "even if" and "as" is used , not "if."
Thank you in advane for your help.

"as he died" is a more certain expression than your suggested "if he died."

It is difficult to laugh when your mouth is filled with blood. "though" as a conjunction makes that point. "Although" could be used as well.
It describes an imagined or remembered death scene.
When he died, he was laughing and then cursed.
