"the" usage

Hello my dear Friends,

I was wondering which sentence is grammatically correct as a general statement:

Lions and tigers are animals from cat family.
Lions and tigers are the animals from cat family.

I thank you in advance for your precious help.

Actually, the word 'animals' is not necessary, because we all know what's being talked about. I would suggest: Lions and tigers are members of the cat family.
