The unnecessary "the"

Hello,

Is "the" unnecessary here?

Is "The subject and predicate are linked by..." correct?

Or should it be "The subject and THE predicate are linked by..."?

I think having the second "the" is not incorrect, but is it ok (even in formal text) to delete the second "the"?

(Like "the cows and chickens have come home." or "the cows and the chickens have come home")

Thanks.
