The "units" of the grade

At school they give you a grade after a test. But what are the single "units" that form the grade called? An example: "I gave you the top grade, but on a second thought I think your exam wasn't that good and therefore I'll subtract two [...] from your final grade."
Are they called "units"/"numbers" (or letters)/"bits"? Or are they also called "grades" (but then what is the final grade called?)

It depends on the grading system; all are not like yours. I gave you the top grade, but on a second thought I think your exam wasn't that good and therefore I'll subtract two grade points / two points / two percentiles from your final grade.

In my experience I find that the British use 'marks' and the Americans use 'points' for those units.
