"Patterns" is okay, but it is awkward to say "food eating." I would just say "Unhealthy eating patterns."

However, I am having some trouble with the rest of the sentence. Try this:

Unhealthy eating patterns that include more sugar, fats, and oil have led to an upward surge in obesity, which can damage growing children. [or similar wording.]
