The two tables provide sales data of fairtrade coffee and bananas in the years of 1999 and 2004, in five European nations.
Overall, it is clear that the sales of coffee and bananas both rose in all the countries except Sweden and Denmark over the five-year period. Meanwhile, the UK and Switzerland earned the most compared to other countries.
In 1999, Switzerland had the highest turnover from coffee sales, which is 3 million. However, this sales amount got doubled by 2004. On the other hand, the revenue of the UK from selling coffee increased significantly from 1.5 million in 1999 to 20 million in 2004. Denmark and Sweden’s sales from coffee increased from 1.8 to 2 and 0.8 to 1 million respectively. Belgium’s rate showed a small enhancement from 1 to 1.7 million during this period.
In terms of Bananas, Switzerland’s figure was 15 million in 1999 and it went up more than three times to 47 million in 2004. In the UK and Belgium, the sales grew from 1 to 5.5 and 0.6 to 4 million euros respectively. However, Sweden and Denmark showed a downward trend in Banana sales ranging from 1.8 to 1 and 2 to 0.9 million euros across these years.
