The topology of Web Sites <- Sounds english?

Hello,

In French, we use the word "topologie" to speak about the global characteristics of something.
Like in my case, I would like to say, "the topology of the Web Sites" meaning all the aspect of the web sites, their technology etc.
But after googling a bit, I wonder if the word "topology" can be used in this case... Will that sound English :?

Thxs in advance for your comments,
Ludo

Hi Ludo,

In 'tech speak' we commonly refer to network topology - as can be seen here: http://www.its.bldrdoc.gov/fs-1037/dir-024/_3535.htm

I would say, if I’ve understood your context correctly, Website structure? However, "topology of the websites" would make “I.T related

Topology, as it is used in English, refers in some way to the spatial relationship among related objects. This could be a logical relationship, such as the nodes on a network, or a physical representation such as a geographical map.

I don't recommend that you use this word unless you have such a meaning in mind.

Hi all,

when I meant "topology of web sites", I want to say, the different kind of technologies available.

Basically, in this paragraph, we spoke about the fact that out solution is good whatever the "topology of the website", it can use flash, php, asp, vignette etc...
Their web site can have *** structure, our solution will still work.

If topology is not corre

The best way of writing something is usually the simplest and clearest way. And never use jargon just because you want to sound professional.

If what you mean to say is that your product supports different technologies, then simply state that clearly. For example:

Our solution is compatible with all common website design technologies including flash, php, asp, and vignette.

it's what I do in the paragraph, I clearly develop and explain that. But The topology of Web Sitesis the name of the paragraph title, so I don't know what I could say in a clear but short way

In this case you could use "Website Structure", the term suggested by Frank, as the paragraph heading.
