The time when

Hello, I would like to ask you about the following sentence.
Tell me about the time when you lied to your parents. Could also the past continuous be used in this sentence? Tell me about the time when you were lying to your parents?

Thank you in advance

Anonymous Tell me about the time when you lied to your parents. I think that simple past is the better choice. You're describing an event which took place at a particular time - probably a single lie.

Tell me about the time when you were lying to your parentsthe time when suggests an event, so the first is much better. I can't even think of a good example of how you might use the second one.
