The tick or a tick of it?

Hi. Please help. Should there be the definite article "the" before the word "tick" in the following example sentence?
Or could we use the indefinite article "a" before the word "tick" in the same example sentence?

To him, eighty years is like the (a?) tick of an analogue watch.

Could we use the indefinite artcle "a" before the word "tick"?
