The third shelf space

Hi, what do you call the space on the shelf? do you call it the first shelf space, the second shelf space, the third shelf space...?

Is this correct?

- I put that in the third shelf space

thanks

The individual levels are 'shelves'. ' I put that on the first / the top shelf '. If the shelves themselves are horizontally divided, then I suppose you can say first / second or left/right/center .
