I have once heard a saying: “ The surest indicator of a great nation is not the achievements of its rulers, artists, or scientists, but the general welfare of all its people”. From my perspective, I wholeheartedly agree with this statement, as it is not the minority but the majority who will contribute to the thriving of the country.

Truth be told, rulers, artists or scientists do have an important role to the development of a country. They are all prominent figures, who can greatly affect the prosperity of a nation. Rulers, who are leaders of a country, will responsible for making vital decisions, including imposing regulations, laws or policies which can transform a country in many aspects. Artists, who can create remarkable works of art which will have profound effect on the later generations, both artistically and spiritually, or scientists, with their innovative inventions, they can change human’s life for a better. However, in order to be successful, they all need support from people of all walks of life, their relationship and cooperation. Whether a nation flourishes or not, it depends on its human resource, as they are they the backbone of a country. Therefore, I believe that ensuring the general welfare of people is pivotal.

The first reason why every people in a nation deserves such attention or caring from the government is rooted in the fact that this will help them to lead a happier, more fulfilling life. First of all, it is children who need to be given sufficient education, together with modern infrastructures in order to help children fully developed themselves. Hence, they will have opportunities to broaden their horizons, to expose to more advanced knowledge and different cultures, which can give them a key to later success. Moreover, healthcare system and housing are other problems that government need to pay heed to. Providing people with adequate medical treatments, health insurances and places to live can also not only ensure theirs well-being, but also decrease the poverty and crime rates. This, overall, would help people to enjoy their life more.

The second reason I support this statement is that ensuring general welfare of people is also ensuring a sustainble enconomic growth of a country. Many people will get a high chance of getting their own jobs due to the assurance of better education and healthcare. More multinationals companies will invest money into the country because of the country’s safety and highly-trained personnels , which eventually boosts the economy up. This also have proved that the governmental authority has gained the credibility with their people, as a result, internal conflicts will less likely to happen.

In conclusion, although rulers, artists or scientists do play an essential role within the nation’s prosperity, I believe that measures to ensure the general welfare of people are most vital element to build a great nation.
