The strange odour was rising from beneath the floor.

Hello.

I have three questions about the following sentence:

The strange odour was rising from beneath the floor.

1) Is it grammatically correct?
2) Does it make sense in the context where the speaker just recounts this story to his flatmate after he gets back home?
3) If not, is there any other context where it makes sense?

Thanks for help.
