the 'spline' pronunciation in the UK

Could anyone dispel my doubt. On the www.thefreedictionary.com one can find and hear British and American pronunciation of the word I mentioned. I tried to confirm the British variant but the second source only (www.merriam-webster.com) states the transcription \`splin\. What is the truth?

The standard BrE phonemic transcription is /spla?n/.

I think it's pronounced wrong on that site. I was unable to find any other British dictionary on-line that pronounced it like that ("spleen").
