The speech he ...

Hi,

1. The speech he "made" was really boring. => I am just wondering if it is possible to replace the "made" with "did". As far as I know it is "made" not "did", but because I can't explain why, I need help.

2. The break "did" me a lot of good. => Here, what kind of sentence is that?

The break => subject

did=> verb

me => object

a lot of good => What is this?

3.Hearing the news made my day => What's the meaning of the sentence?

Thanks in advance.
