The society would benefit from a ban on all forms of advertising because it serves no useful purpose and can even be damaging. Do you agree or disagree?

It is said that advertisements is useless or even harmful to society. While I recognize the potential drawbacks of this industry, I believe it should not totally ban.

There are several reasons why advertising has negative effects. Firstly, the primary goal of it is to persuade people to buy products, companies spare no effort to convince people that buying these things makes them happier and that people spend much money on shopping belong to a higher social class. This results in people over-spending on unnecessary goods and in turn to be a consumer culture in society. Secondly, a number of advertisers even aim to young children and what they do is that they expose children to colorful and attractive for such products as toys. Since the young are inexperienced so that they easily are influenced and put pressure on parents to buy them things.

On the other hand, advertisements can bring benefits to the public. To begin with, without the existence of advertisements, the whole economy of a country could severely suffer. People who used to work in advertising industry are now unemployed. This would lead to a rise in the unemployment rate. Moreover, companies now face a variety of challenges in making profits as they have fewer potential customers who are aware of their products. In terms of a buyer’s perspective, commercials inform them about the choices that they have. When they could not find any introduction of products on the television or the internet, they could find it extremely challenging to make buying decisions as there are many product of the same category that are available in the market.

In conclusion, despite of negative effects of advertisements, I consider there is no need to ban it completely.
