The soccer team.

This question is about "collective noun".

The soccer team felt unhappy because ___ had lost in the closing moments of the game.

I thought that "whether a team loses or not" was a matter of a team's own.

So if a team is lost, a team has collective meaning. It is not a collection of various individuals but one unit.

Therefore, my answer was "it"

But the answer was "they".

Could explain me why???:)
