The smell would permeate my body

Hi

Are these sentences OK? Any suggestions?

I used to work all day long near the chimneys and the smell of the smoke would permeate my body. Only a long, warm shower would make it go.

I used to work all day long near the chimneys and the smell of the smoke would permeate every pore of my body. Only a long, warm shower would make it go.

Thanks,

Tom

Both uses are acceptable. My preference for the second sentence would be to add “away” at the end. Permeate the body means completely cover…which it does by entering all the pores.
