The Skylight Room

The Skylight Room - By O'Henry

While reading this story, I've reached this sentence and I am not sure what Mrs Parker means by saying

'In this closet,' she said, 'one could keep a skeleton or anaesthetic or coal - '

Could anyone explain?

Thank you

Top answer

She favored doctors and dentsts as tenants, and was prompting Miss Leeson to say she was one. A doctor would need a place top store his skeleton, and a dentist, his anaesthetic.
