The simple past v.s. the past perfect

Regarding the following two sentences:

(A) I didn't remember when he left London.
(B) I didn't remember when he had left London.

I'm not quite sure which is the right choice. Please tell me.

Top answer

seagull I'm not quite sure which is the right choice. There is no call for past perfect, since it is obvious that the departure preceded the memory.
