The shop opened/was opened when she was 18 years

“In my first year at the Foreign Trade University my dream of doing business began to mature and I decided to open a shop.” The shop opened when she was 18 years old, with initial capital of $1,000 or so as she only had to buy materials.

Shouldn't we use the passive here?

"The shop was opened when she was 18 years,..."
