The shop is open or opened from xxxx

Hi,

Could you help me with this?

1) The shop is open from xxx to xxxx. OR The shop is opened from xxx to xxxx??

2) Someone wrote " The shop is open from xxxx up to ...... Is it correct? I would omit the word UP, but is it completely wrong?

3) Someone wrote "I like all the castle". I understand what she meant, but this structure sounds unidiomatic. I would have written something like: I like the whole castle for example. Any suggestion? Is the original version completely wrong or acceptable?

Thank you in advance.

OR The shop is opened from *** to xx?? No. Think of 'is opened' as 'the owner unlocks the door'.

eg The shop is opened at 9am every day (by the owner).

2) Someone wrote " The shop is open from xx

Thank you Clive, very much!!!!!

In number 2: I wanted to know if he could say from xxxx up to xxxxx. I corrected him from xxxx to xxxxx but I was not sure. I did not mean open up, but fromxxx up to xxxx

Thank you again

Hi,

The shop is open from 9 am up to 11 pm.

You could say that.

'Up to ***' suggests that *** is a surprisingly late time.

We often say 'right up to ***'.

The opposite of 'open' is 'closed'.

Can't I say "The shop opens from xxxx to yyyyy instead of "The shop is open from xxxx to yyyy"?

No. Not unless you want to suggest the crazy action of repeatedly opening the shop (which implies repeated closing as well).

And what about "The shop opens at 9.30 a.m. and closes at 6.00 p.m." Is it correct if I want to say that it begins to work at that time?

Correct. (I would write times with a colon, thus: 9:30.)
