1.after "or"(in the last sentence),what's omit?
2.what's "middle-class valus"?and why the youth who reject it get failure?

"Many theories concerning the causes of juvenile delinquency focus either
on the individual or on society as the major contributing infulence.
Theories focusing on the role of society (a verb seems to be missing here, perhaps something like 'suggest') that children commit crimes in
response to the their failure to rise above their socioeconomic status,or
as a rejection of middle-class values."

1.after "or"(in the last sentence),what's omit? Nothing.
2.what's "middle-class values"? Values that are characteristic of decent, average people.
eg that honesty is desirable, that hard work brings rewards, that people should obey the law..

and why the youth who reject it get failure? Perhaps you can now answer this question by yourself, in light of my examples above.
