the same watch as VS the same watch that you have

Dear teachers!

I was taught that "the same" should go together with "as". And yet the other day I heard someone say "the same blah blah that blah blah." I'd like to know the difference between them. I'm putting down two sentences below.

1. I have the same watch as you have.

2. I have the same watch that you have.

Could you let me know any difference?

Lots of thanks to you teachers.....

Hi M&M-- That can also be used when a clause follows: She is the same girl that/who dumped me for the trapeze artist. As a matter of fact, as would sound a bit odd to me here; that may be only a personal reaction, though. You can even omit it: She's the same girl I used to date .

  • They all mean the same, of course.

Hello Mr Micawber,

What a small EnglishForward!

You've helped me again. Thanks hehe.

Oh. Quick question.

I should say " the same watch as yours", shouldn't I? I mean, when the part after "the same something" is [a/the/or zero](I am not sure) noun, right?

Sorry, but one more.(I'm back and I'm updateing on)

1a. I have the same watch that you have
