The same vs same

1. In standard English, is it possibel to use the word "same" without the article "the" before it. I don't mean informal and incomplete phrases like "same time; same place"

2. Your shirt is a plain white, medium Giordano and so is mine. Should I say "We're wearing the same shirts."; "We're wearing the same shirt." or "We're wearing same shirts"? Thanks

Top answer

1-- No, I cannot think of any normal circumstances in which 'the same' is not a fixed set. 2-- The same shirt /shirts-- both are heard, but I think the singular prevails.
