The sacred wound-print?

1) the sacred wound-print? What does it mean? Does it refer to Jesus' wounded (by crucifixion) hand?
2) "I laid it down"? I put the key on the table (or whatsoever)?

Context:

He reached His hand to take the key;and as I laid it down, I saw that it rested against the sacred wound-print.

It possibly means as you say, but 'print' doesn't work well for an actual wound: 'wound-mark' would be better. Is it by any chance a translation? If not, print suggests an image of a wound, for example someone who had developed the marks of the wound emotionally by thinking excessively about the crucifixion.
