Hi teachers!
Can you please chech the sentences and tell me which are grammatical and sound natural?
1. The room is empty except me.
2. The room is empty except for me.
3. I like apples except green ones
4. I like apples except for green ones.
5. The vacation was great exceptthe rain.
6. The vacation was great except for the rain.
Many many thanks in advance.
I answered the others in a separate question, but 3 and 4 are both correct. It is usual to use 'except' and 'except for' interchangeably, but sometimes it just feels better to use one rather than the other.
