The Right Tense!

Hi,
Is this sentence correct? "He would have committed suicide without having to inform anyone if he was really serious when he told you about how badly he wanted to kill himself last week.
If it is OK, what difference in meaning is there in this sentence "if it's correct?
He would commit suicide without informing you if he was serious about it.

Thank you.
