The reception

Hi,
I get an invitation to a reception.
I write back:
"Thank you for the invitation to THE reception."

"The reception" is better than "a reception", right? It's the reception that we both know about (the person who invited me and me). Thank you.

Yes, the.

But it's more common to just say "Thank you for the invitation."
