I remember reading that 'reason' and 'is because' shouldn't be in the same sentence because 'reason' and 'is because' have the same meaning. Is that correct?

Are these correct?
1. Is the reason for doing this is because your computer is slow?
2. Is the reason for doing this your computer is slow?
3. The reason for doing this is because your computer is slow.
4. The reason for doing this is your computer is slow.

Is #4 better than #3? If so, is #2 correct when changing it to a question? Does it make sense without 'is because' like in #1?

Yes. That's correct. Change 'because' to 'that' and everything will be fine.

3. The reason for doing this is that your computer is slow.
4. The reason for doing this is that your computer is slow.
