Could please answer me a question?why all personal pronouns in English are written in small letter whereas personal pronoun ''I'' is always written with a capital letter?

A theory that I've seen explained on several websites is that the practice of capitalising "I" began hundreds of years ago simply because lowercase "i" looked too small and insignificant, and could get "lost" amongst the other letters. I have no idea whether this is true.
