"The reason I decided to make this video (obviously the decision happened before you started filming) was because a lot of you guys have been/had been asking me to do it".
Are both tenses correct here? Since the viewers don't see the video until it's uploaded, they're probably still asking for the video in the comments while you're filming it, so maybe the present perfect progressive could work.
The past perfect probably works because you can choose to emphasize that they had been asking you to film it up until your decision, and it doesn't matter that they're still doing it. Am I right? Are my reasons correct? Thank you very much!
