The Racker

Hi! I need to translate the book name "The Racker". This is a novel written by Andrew Sinklair. One of the personages called himself "The Racker" after a quotation from Defoe's Journal of the Plague Year. 'The Raker', named after the men charged cleaning the streets during the Plague of 1665. Would you please suggest me the right way to translate "The Racker". The word "rack" has quite many meanings and it is hard to catch the right one. Thank you!!!
