The question of a word order

I have found the sentences in the script of "The office" TV serial

"All right Jim, your quarterlies look very good. And...How the thing is going at the library?”

Why is “the thing” placed before “is” in the question?

No idea. I think it was transcribed wrong.

The dialog in "The Office" can be bizarre, but I'll bet that if you listened to the original broadcast, it would be "How is the thing going ...?"
