The purpose for which

The law would restrict, among other things, the MSDF's area of operations, its involvement in any use of force, and the purpose for which the fuel it provides may be used.

Which refers to the purpose, right?

Thanks

Yes, exactly. They might use the fuel for several different purposes. The "which" is there so that the sentence doesn't end in a preposition.

The "which" is there so that the sentence doesn't end in a preposition. A less grammatical speaker would say, "...the purpose the fuel may be used for."
